When I began teaching 18 years ago, I made it my mission to create research projects that were standards based, engaging and most importantly, FUN!
That’s right, I said it… FUN!
Last year, my students completed an Exploding Box Project focused on Women’s History. The projects were beautiful and well researched. After completing their presentations, the students BEGGED me to come up with a new project. Honestly, I wished I would have recorded this begging because I am aware that no one probably believes this… but it’s true.
That’s when I put together a Pop-Up Book foldable project. The first one I created was an extension for a novel that was being read in class. The project was a hit and the students wanted to create another one. I was thrilled that they were enjoying this project and of course I went to work creating another one. Two more Pop-Up books were created, one focuses on the United States of America and the other on The Solar System.
My students were completely engaged, having fun and most importantly LEARNING. I knew immediately I had to share this resource with other teachers to use in their classrooms too! I went to work creating step by step picture instructions, easy to follow printables and of course a rubric for student assessment.
To accompany this resource, I’ve created an easy to follow video that you can watch before sharing the activity with your students OR you can display it on a project so that students can follow along too.
